Chest Surgery

Chest Surgery for Gynaecomastia (Male Breasts)

Development of breast tissue in males during puberty is often a normal phenomenon. Sometimes this tissue persists after puberty. Breast development can also occur due to the ingestion of certain drugs including anabolic steroids. Breast tissue can be removed through a small incision in the area surrounding the nipple with added liposuction to improve the overall chest contour.

The accumulation of fatty tissue in the chest area in males can be successfully treated using liposuction alone.

Chest Surgery for Gender Transition

Our plastic surgeon has a special interest in breast contouring surgery for female to male gender reassignment patients. He has developed his own procedure, called the “flying brevet” technique as a two stage procedure to remove the breast tissue and both reduce and reposition the nipple to a male position. This technique gives the greatest likelihood of sensation returning to the nipple complex. For more information please see the information leaflet below.

Liposuction

This procedure is performed on generally trim patients who have localized area of fatty deposits usually on their hips, thighs, buttocks or other specific areas of their body. The procedure is performed by the instillation of a dilute solution of saline, adrenaline and local anaesthesia to minimize the bruising and pain associated with the procedure. The fat is removed through a tiny canula and post operative garments must be worn for six weeks. Our practice also provides complimentary treatment using the Vela Shape machine to tighten loose skin and improve the uneven contour that can sometimes be produced by the liposuction procedure.

Abdominoplasty ( Tummy Tuck & Tightening)

Loose abdominal skin and laxity of the abdominal muscles is a common result of multiple pregnancies or significant weight loss. The abdominal contour can be restored to normal by an incision in the bikini line and around the belly button. The loose abdominal skin is removed and muscles are tightened as part of the procedure. Post operative garments are worn for six weeks to ensure a stable contour and the best possible result.
