Body Contouring

Body Contouring General Information

Significant weight loss, either by natural means or by surgical restriction of the stomach’s normal capacity, leads to significant areas of loose redundant skin. These areas on the arms, thighs, flanks and buttocks can be treated by surgical reduction, hiding the scars in natural body contours. Our plastic and reconstructive surgeon does not perform total body lift procedures but prefers to deal with each area as a separate entity usually as a day surgery procedure. This minimizes the operative stresses on the patient whilst allowing recovery from each procedure to occur before the next is undertaken.

Liposuction

This procedure is performed on generally trim patients who have localized area of fatty deposits usually on their hips, thighs, buttocks or other specific areas of their body. The procedure is performed by the instillation of a dilute solution of saline, adrenaline and local anaesthesia to minimize the bruising and pain associated with the procedure. The fat is removed through a tiny canula and post operative garments must be worn for six weeks. Our practice also provides complimentary treatment using the Vela Shape machine to tighten loose skin and improve the uneven contour that can sometimes be produced by the liposuction procedure.

Abdominoplasty ( Tummy Tuck & Tightening)

Loose abdominal skin and laxity of the abdominal muscles is a common result of multiple pregnancies or significant weight loss. The abdominal contour can be restored to normal by an incision in the bikini line and around the belly button. The loose abdominal skin is removed and muscles are tightened as part of the procedure. Post operative garments are worn for six weeks to ensure a stable contour and the best possible result.
